Local search is about relevance to a place

A prospective customer may search for a service in a town, use a “near me” query or look directly in Maps. Your website needs to make the connection between the service and the area clear. That does not mean mentioning every nearby town in every paragraph.

A strong local page explains a genuine service relationship. It should help a customer decide whether you work in their area and whether the service fits their needs.

Get the business information right

Use a consistent business name, telephone number and relevant address or service-area information. Keep opening hours and service descriptions accurate where they are published. If the business changes location or changes what it offers, update those details rather than leaving conflicting versions online.

A Google Business Profile can support eligible businesses that meet Google’s requirements. The profile should describe the actual business. Do not invent a premises or create a profile for an area where the business does not qualify.

Give service pages enough detail

  • Explain the service in language customers use.
  • State the areas genuinely served.
  • Describe the process and any useful practical limitations.
  • Answer questions that matter to local customers.
  • Make contact details and the enquiry route easy to find.

When do separate town pages make sense?

A separate page is useful when there is meaningful information for that area: a genuine service difference, relevant local experience or practical details the customer needs. Swapping the town name in an otherwise identical page does not create a useful resource.

Start with a coherent service-area explanation and the strongest commercial opportunities. Expand deliberately when you have enough relevant content to justify another page.

Reviews and reputation

Genuine customer feedback helps people assess a business. Invite honest reviews through an appropriate process and respond professionally. Do not invent reviews, present unverified scores or imply that a profile guarantees a particular map position.

How to assess local SEO work

Look at visibility for relevant services and places, then connect that to calls and suitable enquiries where measurement is available. A ranking checked from one location is not the whole picture, because search context can vary.

Our local SEO service brings website content and local business information together within the wider SEO programme.

Questions, answered.

Do I need a page for every town?

No. Create separate pages only where each can offer meaningful information for customers in that area.

Can an online-only business use a Google Business Profile?

Eligibility depends on Google’s current rules. A purely online operation generally does not qualify in the same way as a business serving customers in person. Check eligibility before creating a profile.
